SHOWS AND TASTINGS

Published 2nd June 2014

Another busy month with food events and county shows.  We kicked off the month with Nottinghamshire County Show on 10th & 11th May 2014.  This was our second year attending in The Food Experience Marquee and we had loads of tastings of our oil, lovely fresh dips and breads and cakes all made by me with our rapeseed oil.  Despite the inclement weather, we had lots of regular customers and new ones eager to taste the range of speciality breads and fresh vegetable dips (you'll find the recipes for these in the Marinade & Dips section of this website).

The following weekend we were at Woodhall Spa Show and were very lucky with the weather, which brought hoards of visitors, many coming into The Rural Life marquee where we had another large tastings table.  The theme of this year's show was "OIL" and Andrew was able to explain how we grow, press and bottle our "Ownsworths Rapeseed Oil".  Many of you continue to ask for my baking recipes and will now be receiving the latest ones via email.

If you are a new customer and would like to join our Email Recipe Club - just pop me an email on "ownsworthsmail@gmail.com" asking to have them sent to you and I will happily start sending out my latest recipes.

The Bank Holiday weekend saw us with lots of other Select Lincolnshire producers in The Hildreds Centre at Skegness.  This 3 day event saw lots of locals and holiday makers eager to taste much of Lincolnshire's finest food.  This time I took along fresh homemade marinades (and again you will find these recipes in the Marinade & Dips section of this website).  I make a point of using lots of ingredients from other producers in my recipes, helping support them and highlighting their fantastic food.

Cheerio from me.  Lovely to see you all and have a chat about how you are all using our oil and even swapping ideas with you all.

A final message from Andrew on how this year's crop is looking - "Our oilseed rape has now finished flowering, the pods are filling due to all the rain.  We are having to be vigilant for any disease due to the moist conditions within the crop and in the meantime pray for a dry and successful harvest, which is the culmination of a year's hard work".
