NEW YEAR - NEW RECIPES

Published 22nd December 2017

It is always lovely to meet up with some of our customers, whether it's at a food event we're attending or just in passing in the street.  I love to hear how everyone is using their Ownsworth's Rapeseed Oil,
from the delicious sounding cakes, light and refreshing salad dressings or frying some special meal for the family.  And Andrew is absolutely delighted when I report back to him how much you all particularly like the special taste of our single variety of oilseed rape oil, grown on our limestone and ironstone soils, here on our own farm here in Lincolnshire.  You see - there are several British rapeseed oils on the market now, but many are a blend of several producers, but our Ownsworth's Rapeseed Oil is special and unique - just like all of us on or farm!!

Just like many of you all out there, I love to try dishes inspired from other parts of the world, but I am so passionate about supporting our British and local farmers, who do an amazing job of producing the highest quality fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, drink, cheese ..... I could go on the list is endless, and all whilst trying to remain competitive against some producers in other parts of the world, who don't have the same production, legislative, regulatory and staffing costs which we farmers and producers face in this country.

So during 2018 each month I am going to share with you all some recipes my family like to tuck into, inspired by far away lands, but all using local produce (including our home grown rapeseed oil) albeit with a bit of lemon, or spices which can't be grown in this country - I'm sure you'll allow me that (although I will try and find a substitute grown in this country wherever possible).

Don't forget that you can cook the most delicious roast potatoes using our rapeseed oil this Christmas - par boil the potatoes and parsnips, before tossing into a roasting tray of our hot oil (you can sprinkle with salt, rosemary, anything you like).  They come out golden, crispy and very very yummy!!

And don't leave the turkey out!  Drizzle our rapeseed oil over the turkey and your pigs in blankets, and if you're doing a festive spread - don't leave your salad bare! Knock up a simple salad dressing using 5 tablespoons of our oil, the juice and zest of half a lemon then grind some fresh black pepper in, shake and drizzle over salad leaves of your choice.

We're all having a big family Christmas get together up at the farm, bringing out the "emergency Christmas chairs", finding a spare table to squeeze into the dining room (we've got 13 of us this year) and the nicest thing is that everyone "mucks in".  I love it when other family members cook a course - so someone will do starters (that's my daughter's mother-in-law doing it this year) Andrew likes to cook the turkey (it's a man thing).  Youngest son James is prepping the veg, I'm cooking the veg and my son in law is making his renowned lemon cheesecake (honestly folks it is to die for!!).  Then there's my daughter in law Laura in charge of clearing away and washing up - don't ask me why she love it so much - and don't think I let the rest off - oh no!  everyone is given a job - but that way Christmas isn't stressful and everyone feels included.

I hope you all have a wonderful meal, with friends and family and that 2018 will be a great year whatever you are doing.  Thank you so much for reading my blogs and supporting my family through buying our rapeseed oil, wine, or booking our www.fulbeckgardenscottage.com  THANK YOU!!!!!!
